About Chihuahuas

Chihuahuas are the world's smallest breed.
They belong to the toy group in accordance
with American Kennel Club.  There is no
such thing as a Teacup chihuahua, only very
small chihuahuas.  Sometimes the tiniest of
these are not the healthiest.  A reputable
breeder will not advertise a "teacup"
chihuahua.  We feel the healthiest size for a
chihuahua is at least 4 or 5 lbs.  The larger
the chihuahua, the better the family pet.
Chihuahuas are very loyal and protective of
their "person".  They will often pick a favorite
person in their family, but a well socialized
Chihuahua will be affectionate to, and love all
members of the family.  Special
consideration must be given to their size.
They are sturdy little dogs, but not made for
rough play.  Accordingly, they may not be
the perfect breed for a home with small
children.  They make great watchdogs, so do
be prepared for a certain amount of barking.
This little breed can often live 15 years or
beyond, another important consideration.
For more information on the Chihuahua go to
the AKC website.  There you will find
information on many different breeds and
their specific characteristics.  Careful thought
and planning should go into adding any
breed to your family.  A reputable breeder
will be more than willing to help you decide if
their breed is the right one for you.
Remember, you're making a lifetime
commitment!
